Eileen Zegar, L.Ac., Dipl O.M.
Clinical Consultant, Acupressure Massage
Responsibilities
As the facilitator of the Acupressure “self-help” workshop, I demonstrate how each of us
can take part in our own healing. There are hundreds of points on our body that help to
enhance, sedate and simply move our energy. By learning how to harness this energy we
can begin the process of calming the nervous system and creating a better platform for
healing. In this playful and exhilarating workshop each of us learns what it feels like to
focus our energy, calm our breath and direct our thoughts by placing our hands on our
own bodies. We also learn how to use these techniques on others.
Training
I received a Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Arts in
1976. I completed my Masters of Traditional Oriental Medicine degree from Emperor’s
College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in 2004. I have massage training from The
Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing, L.A. I am a California State Licensed
Acupuncturist and a Diplomat in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture by the National
Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCAAOM).
Professional Work
I currently maintain an Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine practice in Los Angeles and
Valley Village. In 2001 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. After a bi-lateral
Mastectomy, and chemotherapy, it became clear that I would devote a portion of my
practice to assisting others on their cancer journey. It is with great joy that I bring these
workshops to Simms/Mann. I teach Traditional Chinese Medicine theory at The Shiatsu
Massage College of Santa Monica and Acupressure at Emperor’s College of Traditional
Oriental Medicine, Santa Monica.
Personal Interests and Perspectives
I consider my work a synthesis of acupuncture, message and mindfulness. I have a
strong Buddhist Practice which keeps me focused on the middle way. I believe that with
a foundation of calmness and peace we can all thrive regardless of what is thrown our
way. I know that being an artist has encouraged me to maintain a youthful and playful
vision of life. These workshops are my way of extending that joy out into the universe. I
love to travel the world, paint, play guitar, ride my bike and bring my dog to work when I
can. A sense of humor is everything!
