Finding the Courage to Keep Living after a Cancer Diagnosis

Edward Feinstein

It takes more than insightful diagnosis, artful surgery and powerful medicine to fight cancer. It takes profound inner strength. It takes courage, hope, and tenacity. A sage once taught: “Everyday, God rains healing onto the world. The problem is, not everyone owns a bucket.”  How effective we are in locating and drawing from the wells of inner strength has much to do with health, well-being and the ability to live with cancer.

Edward Feinstein is rabbi of Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, California, and a Lecturer at the Ziegler Rabbinical School at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. He is a survivor of two bouts with colon cancer and, even after surgeries and chemotherapy, he still bakes brownies every Friday from a recipe revealed to his family at Mt Sinai.
