Breast Cancer Treatment in the 21st Century
Olga Olevsky, MD
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy diagnosed in women in the 21st Century. However, it is not a homogeneous disease, but rather a complicated spectrum of disorders ranging from rather innocuous hormone sensitive disease, to more aggressive hormone resistant cancer. Thankfully, multiple modalities are currently available to treat breast cancer. The biology and the pathophysiology of breast cancer are discussed along with a review of surgical, radiation, hormonal and chemotherapeutic treatments of breast cancer that are available as well as upcoming treatments in research trials.
Olga Olevsky, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is Board Certified Medical Oncologist that specializes in the treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Olevsky has been a medical oncologist for over five years and an internist for more than a decade. She has an active practice in Santa Monica and works closely with the team of outstanding breast cancer researchers here at UCLA.
