Skin Cancer: Prevention Strategies, Early Recognition, and Treatment
Teresa Soriano, MD
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in the United States. They are typically divided into non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancers. The Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinomas, the most common non-melanoma skin cancers, affect more than 2 million Americans annually. The incidence of melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer, continues to rise in the United States. Most skin cancers are associated with ultraviolet exposure. Early detection and management are critical to the successful treatment of skin cancers. Dr. Soriano discusses what people should look for and how skin cancers are prevented and treated. The aim of this presentation is to increase knowledge on risk factors and early detection of common skin cancers.
