Curcumin May Improve Memory and Happiness!
Curcumin, which gives curry its bright yellow color, could elevate your mood, and improve your memory, according to a study by the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. It is an Indian herb and derivative of turmeric, that has been used for flavoring food, preserving food, and as an herbal remedy.
Over the 18-month study, adults between the ages of 51-84 took a daily curcumin supplement. Recorded data indicates that the participants had improvements in attention abilities, memory and mood.
Dr. Gary Small, the Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at UCLA’s Longevity Center states, “Exactly how curcumin exerts its effects is not certain, but it may be due to its ability to reduce brain inflammation, which has been linked to both Alzheimer’s disease and major depression.”
