About the Lecture
Michael Yeh, MD, Professor and surgeon, and Stephanie Smooke Praw, MD, Assistant Professor and endocrinologist, present the most recent information on the diagnosis, treatment and management of thyroid cancer, one of the most curable cancers. They review different types of thyroid cancer including diagnosis, surgical, radiological and medical treatments as well as treatment of recurrent or widespread disease including the newest targeted treatments. Management of thyroid hormones during and after treatment to establish healthy regulation of metabolism is discussed as it relates to helping patients maintain optimal well-being.
About the Speakers
Michael W. Yeh, MD is a Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine. After pursuing his studies at Stanford University and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Yeh trained in general surgery at UC San Francisco. He then completed the prestigious T.S. Reeve International Fellowship in endocrine surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He established the UCLA Endocrine Surgery Program in 2006. Under his leadership, the Program has gained national and international recognition for clinical excellence in the management of complex endocrine diseases and specifically thyroid cancer. He is an expert in minimally invasive surgery.
Stephanie Smooke Praw, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Program Director for the Endocrine Fellowship and clinical endocrinologist. After pursuing undergraduate studies at Yale and an MA at the University of London, Dr. Smoke Praw attended medical school at UCLA. She also completed residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology at UCLA. Dr. Smooke Praw has clinical and research interests in thyroid cancer.
