Know What You’re Made Of…

apple and pearBio-impedance Analysis (BIA) or body composition testing is a quick, painless, non-invasive and safe test to identify how much muscle and how much fat you have and what shape you are (for instance, are you an apple or a pear).  Using this information we predict how many grams of protein you need to consume each day, the range of calories you need based on your lean mass and we also learn how many pounds of fat you may have more than you actually need.

BIA provides simple, easy to measure metrics which are trackable. It is rewarding to see a yellow line going down to indicate loss of fat for example. Here is an example of a patient who lost body fat while maintaining muscle mass.

BIAHydration is another useful finding from a bio-impedance analysis test.  The software provides total body water and divides it into intracellular and extracellular fluids.  From this we may learn if you are fully hydrated (intracellular fluids in normal range).  For many people this is valuable feedback on whether they are drinking sufficient fluids.

The team from RJL Systems put together this great video that shows how the process works!
