Making a Difference One Cup at a Time
With generous efforts from many, the Simms/Mann UCLA Center is gratefully able to accept donations from cancer patients, family and friends to help support our services. With this money we are able to help patients and families touched by cancer because we understand that medicine is not enough… psychological, nutritional and spiritual needs must be addressed. The Center is appreciative of the funds raised no matter how big or small because it all makes a difference in providing free psycho-social and spiritual care to patients who come to the Center.
Some of the most touching examples of those that donate their time and energy to help raise money for the Center come from our youngest supporters. N. Cherie Nassi, MA, MS, MFT-registered intern, who is currently an oncology counselor here at Simms/Mann Center has had a positive impact on patients’ lives through her work in and out of our offices. Her young daughter Alina at the age of 4 years old suggested holding a fundraiser with a lemonade stand to help bring awareness while collecting donations. With the help of her mother, they came together to sell drinks this past Sunday, April 26th in their community. The event was a success with Alina and all her friends coming out to show their support. The duo was able to raise a total of $311 so far.
The Simms/Mann UCLA Center recently announced a donation match opportunity made possible through a generous offer from one of our advisory board members and husband. Darcie Denkert Notkin and Shelby Notkin have pledged to match new gifts to the Center from now until the end of June 2015 up to $150,000. All that is asked of our supporters is that they step up in donating more than they did last fiscal year and to help share our mission with others in providing free psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families.
Because of this donation match, little Alina’s $311 is going to double to $622! She is an inspiration to follow and the Simms/Mann UCLA Center wants to thank the efforts of her and her mom in helping raise money. It is with great gratitude that we are lucky to say that our supporters are the best and no matter what age, helping the Center is truly appreciated.
