Allan Orenstein, MD

Allan Orenstein, MD

Advisory Board Member

Allan Orenstein, a former Clinical Faculty member at the UCLA Center for Health Sciences, practiced Medical Oncology and Hematology for 34 years prior to his retirement in 2012.  His interests are breast cancer, end of life care, and health care disparities.  He misses the humanistic aspect of oncologic care and the opportunities for intimacy in dealing with patients and families confronting potentially life altering illness.

Allan, a native of Wisconsin, graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University in St. Louis, Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UCLA.  Allan was mentored in medical school by Dr. George Engel, who both articulated the biopsychosocial model of patient care and integrated it into the education of health professionals.  He is a former Board Member of the Carondolet Health System.

Allan has two grown sons and lives in Pacific Palisades with his wife Janie, who has a Ph.D in clinical psychology and is on the Board of Directors of Airport Marina Counseling Service.  Allan enjoys tennis, gardening, Italian and Japanese cuisine, travel, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Orenstein is proud to be an Advisory Board Member of Simms/Mann and hopes to continue to promote integrated, compassionate, quality survival for patients with cancer and their families.
