Responsibilities
As a clinical social work intern at the Simms/Mann Center, I am responsible for supporting patients and their loved ones as they navigate through a cancer diagnosis. This includes connecting patients with community resources, providing both one on one and group support, and collaborating with patient medical teams to promote patient advocacy. My goal is to walk alongside patients and their loved ones as they navigate through the unique complexities of their experience with cancer.
Training
I received my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. While there, I served as a member of the campus assault response team. After graduating, I volunteered for the Women’s Resource Center in Oceanside, CA as a crisis response team member where I provided support and services for survivors across California. I am currently in my second year in the Master’s in Social Work program at the University of Southern California with a focus on Adult Mental Health and Wellness. During my first year, I gained clinical experience as an intern with Women Vets on Point, where I provided one on one and group counseling services to women veterans and their families. I also worked as a team lead with the Greater LA Homeless Count, gathering data that will be used to help support individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Throughout my first year, I developed an interest in working with individuals navigating the mental and physical effects of chronic pain. This interest led me to pursue an internship opportunity with the Simms/Mann Center, where I am looking forward to learning and growing as a clinician and social worker.
Personal Interests
Originally from the east coast, I am fairly new to Los Angeles! Therefore, in my personal time I enjoy exploring all the city has to offer (so much!) I also love reading, beach volleyball, and playing fetch with my dog, a 3-year-old terrier mix named Toast.
