As an MSW student intern, I’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, learning and immersing myself in the clinical experience.
Training and Professional Work
Growing up nestled among the redwoods in a tiny coastal town just below the Oregon border, I was surrounded by artists and became embedded in the art scene at my high school, later going on to graduate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BS in psychology and a double minor in Gerontology and Studio Art. As a classically trained oil painter, I’ve personally experienced the therapeutic effects of the arts, and yearn to find a way to bring that same healing process to others. During a year-long internship that I completed in a hospice agency over the course of my final year in San Luis Obispo, I immediately fell in love with this helping profession, thus illuminating my path toward becoming a social worker. I am always humbled by the work I get to do, becoming a part of the story of such powerful and resilient individuals. I intend to use my artistic background to weave the creative fields into the healing process of those touched by cancer, and I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to apply this to my internship experience at Simms/Mann.
