Dr. Zev Wainberg received his MD from Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine, New York Program in 2000. He did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center Moses Division Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, from 2000-2003. He completed his three year fellowship in Hematology Oncology from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 2006. He immediately accepted a position on the faculty at UCLA and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology. He is the Co-director of the UCLA Gastro-Intestinal Oncology Program and the medical director of the UCLA Colorectal Cancer Center. He is certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology.
His research involves a variety of clinical trials in multiple gastrointestinal cancers including pancreas, colon, gastric and esophageal. Dr. Wainberg’s laboratory-based research involves the testing of novel therapeutics against all gastrointestinal cancers. Currently, he is the recipient of several grants focused on the targeting of cancer stem cells and in molecular classification of GI cancers. In addition to being a dedicated researcher, he is highly committed to his patients. He understands that cancer affects the psychological well-being of patients and values the presence of the Simms/Mann – UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology as part of his team approach to care. Because of his strong commitment to medical care that addresses the needs of the whole person, he serves on the Advisory Board as part of the Medical Leadership.
