Wellness and Visualization

OceanExplore this useful visualization guide to help you improve personal wellness from our Integrative Oncology Specialist, Carolyn Katzin.

Using our imagination to visualize a journey towards wellness is a powerful tool to reduce anxiety. Here are a few ideas to start your own process. First select a starting point and find a comfortable place to sit. Close your eyes and let yourself travel through the scenes that arise in your mind. You may wish to have some music playing quietly in the background or you may decide to find a quiet spot outdoors. Or perhaps you just want to be completely quiet and have some noise reducing headphones to assist you.

  • Secret Garden – You notice a gate into a secret garden that only you have access to, no one else has this key, only you. It is completely safe here. What do you see? What can you hear? Walk around and explore. Perhaps you find a spot to sit down or lie back and relax. The garden is a serene and healing place. When you are ready perhaps you go towards another gate into a…
  • Rose Garden – There are beautiful roses of all colors growing. You may touch the velvet petals, smell a wonderful deep red rose. Perhaps you move to touch or smell another rose of a different shade. Again, you may decide you want to sit here among the blooms and rest for a while enjoying the sights and smells. When you are ready perhaps you want to come back or you may want to go through another gate into an…
  • Orchard – You see trees laden with apples, peaches, plums and other fruit. Perhaps you reach up to pick one or test if it is ripe by gently pressing it. If you pick a peach, feel its texture, smell it and perhaps bite into it. Maybe the juice drips down your chin. Maybe it is early in the morning and there is still dew on the ground. Do you hear birds sing? Are there butterflies? What do you notice? Perhaps you want to stay here for a while or perhaps you are drawn to some running water nearby…
  • Stream – a cool, gentle running stream can be heard and you walk towards it. If the sun has come out, you may choose to sit by the edge of the water and look into it. What do you see? What do you hear? Can you imagine walking along the edge barefoot feeling the cool, clear, water between your toes? Perhaps you decide to step in and slowly dip down so your body is covered in the clear, cool but not cold water.

When you are ready to return you may wish to go back through the gate you entered. Hear the gate close and realize you are back in the surroundings you began your visualization journey with. You return with a gift of wellness. You may return at any time and refresh your gift. This is your journey to better wellness.
