Fatigue is a form of extreme tiredness that is common for cancer patients as they go through treatments. It can be caused by poor sleep, decreased quality of life, and stressful situations brought about by having cancer. Although therapies focused on fatigue are limited, the healing touch of acupressure and massage have been shown to help with fatigue, sleep and quality of life (see the article in the Journal of the American Medical Association [JAMA] Oncology below.)
Supported by a grant from Angie’s Spa, the Simms/Mann Center is pleased to announce a new program providing free acupressure and massage services to patients receiving infusions in the Santa Monica Hematology/Oncology Infusion Room on Tuesdays. Patients can sign up for individually-tailored sessions of 15-30 minutes. Our licensed practitioner will provide soothing acupressure and massage while patients receive their infusion treatments, Patients can sign up on Tuesday mornings and will be seen AT NO CHARGE on a space-available basis.
The Simms/Mann – UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology believes in the positive impact of acupressure and massage and is very excited to team up with Angie’s Spa to provide healing touch at no charge to patients. For more information on the program, please call us at 310-794-6644 or ask your infusion nurse in the Santa Monica Hem-Onc Infusion Center.
