Upcoming Workshops

Look Good, Feel Better

The American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology, invites you to register for Look Good… Feel Better®, a free program that helps women undergoing cancer treatment deal with the appearance-related effects of radiation and chemotherapy.  Participants receive complimentary cosmetics & learn skin care, make-up application, and the use of wigs and head-coverings.

Classes are held quarterly on a Monday,  10 am – noon. Find complete program information in Groups: Look Good, Feel Better.

Pre-Surgical Education Class

The purpose of this weekly educational class is to assist women undergoing breast surgery at UCLA (lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction) to prepare for their upcoming procedures. The class will present a step by step outline of what to expect upon admission through the post operative period. Patient questions and concerns will be addressed in a supportive environment, and participants will be provided with tools for better managing the medical, practical and emotional aspects of their upcoming surgery.

Classes are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. Find complete program information in Groups: Pre-Surgical Education Class.

Healing Through Art

The Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology is offering an Art Therapy Workshop for individuals who have or have had cancer. A variety of art techniques, such as automatic drawing, expressive painting, collage, and cut outs are used to explore topics related to health and life changes. Experimenting with unfamiliar methods and materials can lead to the expression of personal metaphors for loss, bodily changes, new career choices, re-evaluating relationships and an appreciation for life and hope for the future. Group discussion is stimulated when members share their artwork with one another.

Classes are held Wednesdays from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm for 4 – 6 week sessions. Find complete program information in Groups: Healing Through Art.

Acupressure for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

Acupressure can help manage headaches, digestive discomfort, relieve pain, improve fatigue and strengthen the immune system and cultivate blood. Most importantly, it can help calm your spirit. There is little pressure applied to the body in this system. By simply resting your hands on specific points on your body, you can perform acupressure treatments on yourself or loved ones. You will receive a notebook of acupressure techniques to take home with you. Space is limited & reservations are required. You may bring a family member or a friend along.

Classes are held Wednesdays the third Monday of each month from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Find complete program information in Groups: Acupressure for Cancer Patients and Caregivers.
