Six Word Cancer Stories

How many words would it take for you to express all the ways that going through cancer has touched you? What would you say if you could use six words only?

There is a growing popularity for the idea of summarizing one’s life or an experience in a sentence that tells a story, using no more than six words. Seems almost impossible, but it has been done by many; most notably by Ernest Hemmingway who wrote, “For sale: Baby shoes, never used.”

Like a haiku, the “six word story” format allows individuals to tell their unique experience in a condensed and often powerful way. We would like to invite you to submit your “six word cancer story” for publication on our website.

We welcome stories by patients and those close to them. We also welcome stories by doctors, nurses and other health care providers who care for people with cancer.

We may also use them to compile into other formats. You can submit your story using your name, first name only, initials or anonymously; please specify how you would like yours to be designated. If you do not tell us to use your name we will post yours anonymously. Also, please let us know if you had cancer yourself or if your journey was related to someone close to you. Please read below to review how we may use your story and conditions that you agree to upon submitting your story.
